Star Ceilings

Room with a Star Ceiling Image Myriads of twinkling stars sparkle like jewels against the velvety backcloth of space. The heavens present a dazzling spectacle. A quick glance at the night sky reveals that the stars are not all the same. Most obviously, they vary in brightness and they also show subtle variations in color.

This same vision can be recreated indoors using end light fiber optic cable. Constellations, comets or shooting stars can all add to create a dazzling spectacle. The fiber is inserted into acoustical panels or rigid foamed PVC panels, which are attached to the ceiling. A dome, square or rectangular shaped ceiling can be selected. The acoustical panels are finished in fabric, while the PVC panels are a painted finish. Usually multiple fiber diameters are used to create a sense of depth on the ceiling. The light source, either a halogen lamp or LED, will create the twinkling star effect.

	Fiber – PMMA End Light End light fiber, simple in its basic structure, meets a wide range of applications. It is a creative concept for interior or exterior signage and P.O.P. displays, scale models, floral displays, hobbyists and underwater spectacles in aquariums. The optical fiber is of the total reflection type which has a concentric double structure consisting of a core of transparent polymethylmethcrylate (PMMA) of a high refractive index, covered with a thin layer of special transparent cladding material of a low refractive index. The light entering from one end is transmitted, repeating the total reflection at the interface of the two components, and then discharged from the other end. The fiber's properties and features of resiliency, transmission of colored light and no short circuits or sparks provides many opportunities for new concepts and will help designers to fully utilize their creativity.
